From my earliest memories I have been fascinated by ponds.
While growing up on a farm in Upstate New York we had a farm pond I called my own. Just a scrapped out depression in the ground that dried up in the summer. But to me it was a source of endless fun and learning. I remember being small and not allowed to go very far from the house but was always trying to go a little further, a little closer to the pond, and being called back short of my goal. Then one day getting there. I never looked back. Tadpoles, frogs, ducks, muskrats, Great Blue Herons, deer, strange water bugs, birds, tracks, it just went on and on. There was hardly a day that passed I didn't visit the pond, winter or summer, until I entered the Army out of high school. 30 years later I can remember every aspect of that pond, every season.
15 years ago I bought a house in San Jose with a pool. From day one I saw the pool as a potential pond. 7 years ago I converted the pool into a pond and 3 years ago landscaped the entire backyard adding 7 ponds, 6 of them interconnected. It has been a great learning adventure.
I've now relocated to Phoenix Arizona.
These web pages have some of what I've learned along the way from fellow ponders and from my own experiences.
